I’ve been miserably sick with 8 straight days of stomach problems and just now getting the energy and freedom to get some things done. I can’t remember a Sunday when I was too sick to preach, but I’m sure there has to be at least one. Jinny preached for me last week, so I’ll be posting her sermon transcript here soon. I am hearing great feedback and warnings to look out for my job.
I’m maintaining every hope I’ll be back on Sunday, especially since this week begins the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew (5:1-12). It seems ridiculous to try to make a sermon out of The Sermon, but this is what we do. I once heard that Shane Claiborne read the Sermon on the Mount as his presentation for a major conference. He then took his seat, indicating that The Sermon couldn’t be improved. My goal for this Sunday is not to improve the Sermon on the Mount, but to use a few words in such a way to allow its light to shine into our lives today.
