Walter Wink Article on Jesus’ Third Way

The Gospel text for today is Matthew 5:38-48, Jesus’ teaching from the Sermon on the Mount about turning the other cheek and other ways of relating to one’s enemies with love.  I referenced and footnoted several resources in my sermon that have been of great help to me in understanding these verses.  There is no way to cover everything about this topic in one much less two sermons, so I hope anyone interested in digging deeper into this “Third Way” will follow the references and learn more.

Also, there is a also a good article from Wink here, which serves as a short but helpful summary of what he writes in his books.

About John Henson

I am Pastor of Church for the Highlands, an urban church plant affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, started in the Highland neighborhood of Shreveport, LA. I am also Chaplain of Volunteers of America of North Louisiana. I am husband to Jinny and father to a middle-schooler named Jack. Most of my time is taken up with starting a church, but I love running, a good cigar, and reading what mystics have lived and written.
